When the computer doesn’t work…

So this is a Happy Easter, 18th birthday, almost finals week kind of post.

The weather was beautiful for Easter! It was one of the first really nice days we had had in awhile so we were able to wear dresses…without the sweaters!! 😉 I had pictures to put up which would have made this more interesting, but for some reason they aren’t uploading…oh well.

I turned 18! Again, I had pictures, but my laptop has a mind of its own sometimes. If I can get it to work, I’ll put them up at some point. But anyway, my dad got me a beautiful locket! And my mom got tickets for us, my sister, and Noni to go see Julianne and Derek Hough on their tour!! I am beyond excited 🙂

And this is my last week of real classes, next week is finals. So I am pretty sure that we have learned all the new material and now it’s just all review. It’s crazy to think that in two weeks I’ll be done with high school! And in just over a month, I will officially be graduated!

Now to get through those finals…

1st Week of School: Defeated

Whew!! I feel like I just let out a huge breath. As you know, I started school on Monday. I LOVE IT!! I have an awesome schedule, amazing teachers, interesting classes, and a beautiful campus. It’s really pretty:) It is basically in the middle of a field. Kind of;) I will have to take pictures of it sometime for you.

I will say that I am already tired of carrying around my enormously heavy backpack and annoying lunchbox, but I can deal with that.

Let’s start this whole post with my history class. Hist 2050: Early American History. (Early, early. Meaning the whole Land-Bridge Theory, and the Aztecs and Incas.) Probably the best class I have ever taken. The teacher is funny and relatable. She is really good about making sure to not offend people with her views. She makes jokes as she is teaching and makes sure that we are ‘with her’. She gave us chapter notes so that we knew where she was in the chapter, and while she was teaching from the notes, she didn’t look at the notes and just read them straight forward. I don’t think she even used the notes at all. She would relate what she was talking about to current events, and she always has funny tidbits of knowledge. Did you know that Ohioans pronounce things…differently? For example: there is a Russia, Ohio. (I didn’t even know that existed!) But we don’t pronounce it like the country of Russia, no, we pronounce is ‘ROO- sha’. I just thought that was interesting. Here’s a question: where is the Bob Evans HQ located? And I will answer that tomorrow:)

My other classes are also very interesting, but I wanted to really highlight my history class since it is my favorite. I never thought I would ever say that sentence. I usually do not like history, at all. It is probably the atmosphere of the class that makes me like it, but I actually do like the material as well.

I picked up my glasses yesterday:) They are just for reading/writing/computer/HOMEWORK<the main reason the doctor prescribed them.

I tried taking a picture of me with them on, but the only pictures that turned out without a glare in the glasses or with half of my eyes covered up are these. I think they were weird-funny, so I figured I would put them up anyway. Trust me, I have about a million of me actually smiling, but you can’t see my eyes…so there was no point to it:)

Kaitlyn started taking picture after picture. This is me telling her to KNOCK IT OFF!

End of School and SUMMER

School, technically, ended last Wednesday. I still have a few things I need to get done: French, Lit, and history.

Overall, this should be a relaxing summer and I am already enjoying it very much! I took a lot of pictures with people for lots of great memories as this is my last year at my school after 11 years. *Sniff* 🙁

As Wednesday was the last day of school, our P.E. teacher, Coach, set up an outstanding field day themed ‘Down on the Farm’. She asked me to man the ‘Pig Out’ table. And of course…once the students were all finished I just had to try it! So I asked one of the teachers, going by the name Genevieve Elizabeth o’Shinseki (just for the blog!) to face me.

This is our friend, Katy. She is going to public school next year so we won’t see her every day, but we still will see each other at church on Sundays! unnamed (29)

These next two pictures are with Miss Horner and Coach. Miss Horner is another teacher at school (3rd and 4th grade). I had her as my 1st grade teacher. I will miss both of them tremendously.

And finally…my beloved Chemistry teacher (she is the RRT that I followed.)

So now you have faces to put with names! As to this summer, I am taking my driving road test on Wednesday! Pray that I pass the first time!!

I have summer camp later this summer, our VA trip with Noni in June, just swimming with friends and reading. OF COURSE, tons of CILT work to do before camp, but that’s fun…right?

Yesterday was the first day of the yoga challenge. Is anyone signed up to do it? I got the first email yesterday. I’ll post about that soon as well. Tell me about your summer plans.

Baking and Running

Today was a great day! That seems to be happening as of late:) I did many productive things today.

This morning, I stayed in bed until about 10:00. I was out of bed at 8:00, (I only stay in bed later on Saturdays. I usually like to get up early.) but then I got back in and read for two glorious hours- I started the Hunger Games series this week and I am already on book 2. I LOVE, love, love this series. I admit that I was a bit hesitant to start it because of stories I have heard about how the whole series is really scary. I haven’t been disturbed besides the fact that they kill each other. I highly suggest the series though. I am engrossed whenever I read it.-but then I had to get up. So I went downstairs and did 4 miles worth of intervals. Walking, jogging, different steps- 45 minutes in all. Then this afternoon, I got to baking.

I came over to my grandma’s house and baked a cake, cupcakes, and that Shamrock shake I shared with you a few days ago.

I started with the cake. Its a rainbow cake where you mix the different colors of batter together to make a pretty cake.

Here is how it turned out!

The Shamrock shake. I don’t think I let the bananas freeze all the way through. It was really think and almost sticky. Next time, I am going to let the bananas freeze all the way, and add frozen strawberries! Doesn’t that sound good? That was my mom’s suggestions and I think that it would make it icier and much better. I like the thickness that the avocados gave it.

I then used the left over batter from the cake to make some rather unimpressive cupcakes. I haven’t tried them yet but I hope they are good. They don’t look it, but maybe they will taste it.:)

After all of that baking, I used my grandma’s treadmill to get another workout in. I did the 2nd and 3rd days of the challenge. The 2nd day was run 1/2 mile then do 25- 50 air squats, repeat three times. So I did that at a 3.5 mph run. I finished the runs after 26 minutes total. I would say that All together it was 35 minutes. Then day 3 had me do 20 lunges, 10 push ups, repeat 5 times. I think that took me 10- 15 minutes. Of course, I did half push- ups!

So that felt amazing! And then we ordered pizza so it was a full day. This pizza place just came back to town a few months ago. When my mom was a kid, they were still open. But then they left- either ran out of business or just decided to quit…I don’t know. This is my new favorite place to get pizza, but East of Chicago is still very close to my favorite.

This pizza is SO good.

This pizza is SO good.

So THERE you have it. My Saturday…full with a workout (or two) and tons of baking and experimenting.  How was your Saturday? Did you do anything fun today?

Day one of the 30 day challenge

Today was my first day of the 30 day challenge! I actually just finished. 10 pushups, 10 sit ups, 10 air squats. x5. I really liked it today. I didn’t do full pushups all the way through, but that’s ok. It was a noiseless workout. No bouncing around finding every single little squeak the floor can possibly have!!

And chocolate…you should probably know that chocolate is the number one thing that I am craving right now. Its an awful craving to have because you can never have enough. You eat one little fun sized chocolate and then another and you have to physically restrain yourself from having the whole bag. Needless to say, I found a really great kind of chocolate. It is a great little piece of creamy goodness. This is one of the few fruit center chocolates that I enjoy.

Here is how I feel about snow…and incidentally about chocolate. 🙂

Lovin' the snow

That was a very hard picture to take…snow hitting my face, sun in my eyes…I had a few like that that just looked like I was in pain.

I was told to do whatever pose…this is what happened.

This is just a post about what is making me happy at the moment. I am feeling very giddy and I don’t know why! You all get the fruit of my giddiness- pictures!

I’ll finish this post off with something productive and beneficial to you, a recipe. It is a kind of a rainy day here in Ohio. There is still snow on the ground, but it is windy and snow-raining. It is more rain than snow. It is very beautiful- to me. Pretty sure my friends don’t like this weather…I do. I love any kind of rain:) This recipe is called Cherry pretzel dessert. It is not the same as pretzel salad, though. This is a church potluck favorite:)

3/4 sugar
2 cups crushed pretzels
3/4 melted butter
1 Tsp vanilla
2 packets Dream Whip
1 cup milk
8 oz cream cheese
1 cup powdered sugar
1 can pie filling of choice

  • In a large bowl, combine pretzels, sugar and butter; set aside 1/2 cup for topping. Press remaining mixture into an ungreased 13×9-in. dish.
  • In a large bowl, beat the whipped topping mix, milk and vanilla on high speed 4 minutes or until soft peaks form. Add cream cheese and confectioners’ sugar; beat until smooth.
  • Spread half over crust. Top with pie filling and remaining cream cheese mixture. Sprinkle with reserved pretzel mixture. Refrigerate overnight. Yield: 16 servings.

Question: How are you doing on the weekly challenge?
