When the computer doesn’t work…

So this is a Happy Easter, 18th birthday, almost finals week kind of post.

The weather was beautiful for Easter! It was one of the first really nice days we had had in awhile so we were able to wear dresses…without the sweaters!! 😉 I had pictures to put up which would have made this more interesting, but for some reason they aren’t uploading…oh well.

I turned 18! Again, I had pictures, but my laptop has a mind of its own sometimes. If I can get it to work, I’ll put them up at some point. But anyway, my dad got me a beautiful locket! And my mom got tickets for us, my sister, and Noni to go see Julianne and Derek Hough on their tour!! I am beyond excited 🙂

And this is my last week of real classes, next week is finals. So I am pretty sure that we have learned all the new material and now it’s just all review. It’s crazy to think that in two weeks I’ll be done with high school! And in just over a month, I will officially be graduated!

Now to get through those finals…

Just another week in the life…

A new day, a new week, a new month. It’s already February 2017. I feel like I will be saying this every single month this year…it’s just crazy to me.

Tomorrow, I will be leaving for my Model UN convention!!! I’ve been preparing for this for several months so I am ready to get together with the other delegates from the other schools to start thinking about and “resolving” world issues. And, of course, I love the whole dressing up and acting all professional part…pictures to come:)

This past Sunday, I had one of my last piano recitals:( We had a good time though.

Other than that, it has been a normal week of school: eat, study, sleep, repeat. I’m getting closer and closer to graduation. T-minus 13 weeks.

The Insanity of Finals

Hello friends!

My finals week is next week. Eep!! Since I have had the “college finals” experience twice before, I now have realized what I need to do to be more successful. This semester, I have a final in every class. Last year, I had a final in about half of my classes. The good thing is that I have 1 final each day for a total of 4 finals next week. I know some people might like to have them all on just one or two days, but I prefer to have them spaced out to give me the ability to “hyper-focus” (is that a word??) on each exam.

So anyway, I have organized my next 2 weeks. Maybe over organized, but I think it will help me get things done.

First, I scheduled my morning in time increments and wrote it out (color coded of course) on my whiteboard:

**

Wakeup 6:30

Get ready(teeth, wash face, etc)

Devos 7:45

Eat 8:00

Yoga (I do a quick 15 minute yoga to wake me up and get ready for the day. it really helps!) 8:15

Get ready (hair, makeup, clothes) 8:30

Leave 8:50-9:00

–>study

–>workout after school

–>shower (on certain days)

–>study some more!

–>quick room clean

–>set out clothes, lunch, fill water bottle

–>depending on what time it is, I’ll watch an episode of something, but I try to be in bed between 9&10.

**

So that’s my general daily schedule. I think it will help keep me on track instead of procrastinating.

Next, I wrote out all of the things I know I want to do each day on a note card. There are 10 days until my last final so I drew 10 columns. At the top of each column is the day. When I finish each task I color in the box with the corresponding color sharpie☺ For the shower row, I blacked out some days and left the days blank that I expect to take a shower.

To finish off my organization frenzy, I wrote down exactly what I need to study each day for each subject in order to be ready for the final. It doesn’t look like as much when I put it on paper!

Then on the days of each exam, I wrote “exam” so I could clearly see it😃

So that’s what I am doing to maintain my sanity during finals! Somehow, organizing things like that helps ease the stress and keep me motivated.

Well, I’m off to take my last lab exam of A&P 1!!! It’s all about the brain, ear, and eye.👌

Talk to you soon!

**not sure if the pictures will post sideways…ah computers🙄**

CCP- Don’t Underestimate

Hello to all my CCPers out there.

Well, this is my 2nd week of school, already complete! Already, this semester is harder and busier than last semester! I’ll get right to the point: please, please, please DO NOT underestimate how much work you will have taking college courses. For me, last semester was fairly easy. Granted, I did have some moments that I melted into a sad little puddle, but the work load was only slightly heavy.

But this semester?? No way. I was lulled into a false sense of security going into Spring semester. (Am I saying ‘semester way too much? :D)

This term, 3/7 of classes don’t have homework, just exams over a ton of information every several weeks. The rest have weekly homework submissions, which means they are in depth and require a bit of research. The classes without homework are actually hard because of that because it is up to me to keep up with studying even though I don’t have anything to really study for yet.

Now, I am not complaining at all because I actually do love the workload that I have right now. But I want to warn those of you who aren’t mentally prepared for this! Remember, these final grades that you get never go away. These are the grades that colleges, med schools, law schools, etc. will see when you apply to them. So be prepared to be swamped.

Going along with that…don’t overburden yourself with extracurricular things. Choose the activities that you are truly interested in.

In my case, I have a volunteer position (almost), I have an academic activity, and a physical activity as my primary things to put on that resume, among other small things.

I am going to start volunteering soon at a hospital near my town, I participate in Model UN with my college, and I take horse lessons. Along with music and the occasional run. That is just something to think about when you are deciding what ‘extras’ to do. Think about what you are interested in and then think how you can get involved in good ‘college resume type’ activities. But again, colleges are always looking for unique people with unique experiences so don’t try to shove yourself into a box just for college.

And my last tip for today: find a good study space. … outside of school or your house. At least for me, I can study at home or at school, but I am constantly distracted. When I’m at home I ‘have to go clean something or pay attention to the dog’. When I am at school ‘I really should be getting home before it gets dark, and I have to drive. Voila! in comes the hospital cafeteria:) My favorite study space is my town’s hospital café. For several reasons: the food (lol), the setting, and the pace. {Uhoh this sounds like a 3 point expository paragraph!!} Anyway, cheap, super yummy food. Ginormous windows with lots of natural light. And it is noisy but not that noisy, and it’s in a hospital!

My choice of words in that last paragraph weren’t the best, but you get my point. Find somewhere that you can really concentrate, and that you feel very comfortable to put in the long hours of studying.

So now that I am out of excuses…I had better get to my studying.
